Study hard and you can be an expert too

Up late watching the NBA playoffs and stumbled across this article on NPR and I now feel like I wasted my time and money on my bachelor's degree.  How could I compare to experts like these?

LONDON (AP) — Experts said Friday it was almost impossible for a British spy whose naked body was found locked inside a sports bag to have climbed inside and
pulled the zipper closed himself — increasingly the likelihood someone else was involved in his mysterious death.

The rest of the article is about some poor soul being murdered, but the focus is "experts".  What "expert" knowledge do you have to obtain to be able to determine that a dead person locked in a bag did not commit suicide?

Are these "experts" part of the 90 guard security detail that could not stop a blind man?

Update: 4/29/2012 -  I was speaking with my neighbor and was telling him about this story and he mentioned he had not heard of the blind man story.  So here is an excerpt from the article - 

The blind Chinese rights activist, Chen Guangcheng has made a daring escape from his captors and put out a video exposing the abuse and beatings that his family suffered under house arrest.

Evading almost 90 guards who have surrounded his village home for more than a year, Chen is said to have found refuge in a "safe" location in Beijing.
