Medieval Lawsuit

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, a lawsuit was filed by Justin Gilbert after he was injured playing make believe knight.  Mr. Gilbert is suing Martial Enactment League Enabling Expression (MELEE) and Paul Orpin for punitive damages after Mr. Orpin cracked his skull with a wooden sword.

The lawsuit alleges that Mr. Orpin used a non approved shield and that MELEE did not follow their own rules.  It further states that Mr. Orpin and MELEE field judges did not follow the combat rules or the laws of conduct.  This failure to follow procedures created a dangerous environment in which Mr. Orpin cracked Mr. Gilbert's skull.

It is tragic that grown adults have to have rules to play together.  Am I the only one that played some sort of make believe with out some type of governing body?  I played various make believe games that included heroic knight (usually their was some princess in distress playing as well) and I too had a sword, but skulls were never cracked.  I guess we were just smarter and knew that cracking a skull was not part of playing.

Note - I goggled Tulsa, Oklahoma and this image kept showing up. So I guess its part of Tulsa.  What the hell is it?
